Saoirse Week - 2nd Day Thursday

Death Defying Acts

☛SaoirseSpecial
Summary:
On a tour of Britain in 1926, Harry Houdini enters into a passionate affair with a psychic out to con the famous magician.
Bu's Review:
Yesterday I saw on TV the 2007 movie "Death Defying Acts", it's about the great Houdini. This movie has a great history context and is also with one of my favorite actresses. No I'm not talking about Catherine Zeta-Jones, though I like her too, I'm talking about Saoirse Ronan a great girl whose this week is dedicated to.
Sure it's another magician movie about Houdini but unlike the other ones Death Defying Acts lies on the relationship and life of this magician, along with Catherine Zeta Jones's  Mary, more than exactly his magic.
Of course you want Guy Pierce to get the girl but (that's the fascinating part) he doesn't because that's not how it happened in real life, and this gives you the movie's emotional feeling and mood. It's also sad to see little Benji (Saoirse) in the middle of all the matter, because, although she is just a child, she understands what's going on around here a the story is actually told (in some parts) through her eyes!
I advice it for a dramatic afternoon!

My Week With Marylin

Marylin Monroe is Hollywood's face and no one can ever forget her. Her obsession with men. This movie is more than just a kid's fling over a celebrity, is the viewer watching Marylin's life through her eyes. Her away of feeling like no one loves her although everyone loves her. When you see a cast like Michele Williams, I honestly was expecting something else from this movie. But it was a good one.

Anonymous

Anonymous is great for the ones in love with the Tudors and Queen Elizabeth it's an historical romantic movie with a complex story. The screenplay was wonderfully written and allows the viewer to understand every bit of it. The actors were not Hollywood at all which I think was something good. This movie is risky because it questions the work of William Shakespeare but it worked really well. The screen opens with a flash of New York which I think it's really interesting. It has an amazing scenery and wardrobe best historical movie of the year.

The Help!

Kathryn Stockett asked director Tate Taylor to read her book thinking that nobody would want it, but the director says he really connected with it when he realized that he had been a child raised by a made just like Aibileen Clark raised Mae Mobly and Constantine raised Skeeter. The movie was made, with an excellent cast and an AMAZING sense of humor. It is extremely funny but at the same time it connects with you. Every single character is so hard to play, racism victims, racism bullies and racism defenders. This motion picture touches a very emotional spot in America's life. The 60's have many scares and events that no one will ever forget and the fact that this movie has been so successful so far shows that people are much more open minded about this issues like this. I loved it and if the academy doesn't think the same way to bad because for me THIS IS THE BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR. I said that with "Super 8" and I haven't seen the upcoming movies in 2011 but I'm sure I will keep my opinion about this. It's long but funny and super super emotional. It means a lot to me because I saw it and when the title "THE HELP" showed up on screen at the end, the clock showed the number 12 and that's how I spent the first minute of my birthday watching Aibileen leave the girl she loved so much behind after she had challenged her biggest fears and lived an amazing fun adventure with the writer Skeeter.
I love Emma Stone and the incredibly funny Octavia Spencer, the acting is amazing and it really shows the 60's and the history behind it.

The Conspirator

Although it is a 2010 movie here where I live it arrived this week! I really liked it, the fact that a man who didn't belived in the person he needs to defend but still does it no matter what.
Mary Surratt is the lone female charged as a co-conspirator in the assassination trial of Abraham Lincoln. As the whole nation turns against her, she is forced to rely on her reluctant lawyer to uncover the truth and save her life.
I think this is a big return for Redford, an historical movie that touches all of us and shows how society can be cruel. James McAvoy has been a great surprise in this past years, i first saw him in X-men and now I saw that he as made fantastic movies and i'm sure he will continue to.
Personally I would take the hanging part because I don't think it was necessary to show it (but that's just my opinion), I really liked the typical true story text at the end showing how the characters ended up, it made think :"wow, this is just ironic". (If you have seen the movie you know what I'm talking about).

William and Kate: The Movie

As you know today Prince William and Catherine (Kate) Middleton are a freshman couple. A producer made their love story a movie and I've seen it OF COURSE!
Well to celebrate their wedding I had to talk about it, and leave some photos of the special occasion and the movie.
To see how a small town girl became Duchess of Cambridge is amazing and all the gossips were clear with this movie. And my favorite part, when we see William watching Kate in lingerie we realize that prince or not men are all the same!

The King's Speech

I finally saw "The King's Speech" and at the beginning  I thought it was going to be a boring movie, and that it didn't deserved the Oscar. But it turned out to be amazing. It's brilliant the way the treat the subject of the stammer so well and it was actually fun. A moving and funny film is  hard to get but Tom Hooper and David Seidler did a great job.
The Oscar was well given and I think everyone should see this movie it's a story of bravery and friendship. I got to say that Helena Bonham Carter was really different on this movie we are used to see her in crazy roles like Red Queen in "Alice in Wonderland" or Bellatrix Lestrange in "Harry Potter". Colin Firth deserved the oscar it's a hard role to play and he was great!
